Culinary inspiration at the Paris Cookbook Fair

Chic Outlet Shopping® looks forward to the Paris Cookbook Fair, a new event in the French culinary calendar, full of cooking inspiration and enticing flavours from around the world

Regular visitors to La Vallée Village will know all about its proximity to the many charms of Paris, not least that city’s venerable cuisine. But not many know – yet – about a new event in the French culinary calendar – the Paris Cookbook Fair.

If you’re a gourmand – or even if you’re not but just enjoy food and fun – it’s worth planning your visit to La Vallée around it, to sample some of the delicious treats on offer. Thirty chefs from 15 countries, beer tasting after beer tasting, and somewhere in between all that, a Wine Pentathlon offering the chance to taste and learn about fine wine in an hour-long challenge, and all of Paris on the doorstep to dip into and enjoy as well.

The fair takes place from 7–11 March, for the third time, and is well on its way to becoming a fabulous fixture on the foodie scene. Yes, it’s a trade show, aiming to become for cookbook publishing what Frankfurt is for all publishing and what Bologna is for children’s books, but this one comes with a twist – for the weekend offers the public the chance to enjoy all the fun of the fair.

And fun it is, more feast than fair, with the chance for some serious chef-spotting – Michel Roux Senior is the President of Honour and will be there, as will numerous other culinary luminaries, many of them flexing their cooking muscles and creating dishes before an appreciative public. China is a guest of honour, and will be flying in some of its best chefs and culinary experts for demonstrations – so there will be Chinese delicacies galore on offer, alongside classic Gallic dishes that, this year, will focus on the Brittany region.

It’s sure to light a fire under your own culinary ambitions, so it’s just as well that there will be specialist booksellers selling to the public. Not only will you find delectable cookbooks to browse through, including some antique treasures, there will also be the best 1,000 cookbooks and wine books of 2011 and a vast selection from far-flung corners of the world. Another highlight will be the bookbinding exhibition showcasing the work of 30 international artists, with books bound using dried vegetables, wood, textiles and leather.

And although food is the focus, it wouldn’t be France without numerous drinks tastings taking place in the International Wine Bar – and even though it’s France, the product focus is on beer, so there will be lots of beer tastings, too!

The Paris Cookbook Fair takes place at Le Centquatre 5, rue Curial – 75019 Paris and is open to the public on 10 and 11 March, from 10.00 to 19.00. A one day pass costs €5. For further information click here.
