Concierge City Secrets - Frankfurt
No-one knows a city like a concierge does. And because the Chic Outlet Shopping® Villages are within striking distance of some of Europe’s most exciting cities, we have asked our partners at Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ to share their most informative and insightful tips for enjoying them. Their concierges are among the best in the industry and enjoy helping guests make the most of their time in town, whether it’s for a weekend or an afternoon. The second in this new series comes from Frankfurt, from one of the exciting properties of Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ in the capital city.
Roland Hoffmann has been working at the impressive Schlosshotel Kronberg, just outside Frankfurt, since May 2011, as their Rooms Division Manager. He started his career at the Brandenburger Hof in Berlin, before moving onto The Lowry Hotel in Manchester where he received an outstanding customer service award. He and his front of house team of six take great pride in answering all of the hotel guests’ requests, meaning that his knowledge of the hotel and the surrounding area is second to none.
Where can you get the best view of your city?
You can get an excellent view of the city of Frankfurt from the Maintower, one of the skyscrapers in the city’s financial district.
Is there a secret side to your city and how can guests explore it?
Berger Strasse, a long street in the north east of the city centre, in the district called Bornheim, is where the young and hip Frankfurters meet, eat and shop. It’s not on everybody’s visiting agenda, but well worth a visit to explore a different side of this financial capital.
Which café serves the best breakfast in town?
The champagne breakfast at the Schlossrestaurant at the Schlosshotel Kronberg.
What is your recommendation for a great night on the town?
Start off your evening at the Ivory Club restaurant with a fabulous dinner, enjoy your after-dinner drinks at the Kameha Suite just around the corner and let the evening continue with a boogie on the dance floor of the new in-club, Travolta.
What are the region’s top three products?
Äpplewoi, the local cider that’s often served in earthenware jugs known as bembels; Riesling wine from the Rheingau Area; and Goethe, the famous writer.
Is there a single ‘must-do’ that guests should experience before they leave the city?
Take a walk from the north side of town via the historic Römer place and the Eiserner Steg footbridge, and end up in one of Frankfurt’s typical restaurants that serve Äpplewoi.
Which, in your opinion, is the best bar in town, and why?
The best bar in the area is, of course, our own Jimmy’s Bar at the Schlosshotel Kronberg. American in style, this is the meeting place for night owls. In addition to the cocktail classics and the bar’s own creations, guests will find a drinks list with more than 50 types of whisky. Our barkeeper and the live music, with the pianist giving his best every day, ensure the right mood.
What is the most special thing about your hotel?
It’s totally unique – where else would you find a hotel that used to be the home of the mother of the last German Emperor? Since 1954 the ‘Schloss’ has been a grand hotel of the first order. Built under commission from Empress Victoria Friedrich and completed in 1893, Schloss Friedrichshof is today one of the most impressive German castles and offers its guests the chance to experience real history. Exclusive furnishings and an impressive collection of antiques and paintings from the private estate of the last Kaiser’s mother convey the authentic ambience of a castle from imperial times.
Schlosshotel Kronberg is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ collection, with whom we have a special partner rate. Why not take advantage of this exclusive deal when planning your visit to one of the nine Chic Outlet Shopping® Villages? Click here for more details.
